Maintaining Quality in Plastics Machining

Jun 26, 2020 | News, Plastic Machining, Plastics Machining, Quality

Obviously, any manufacturer wants to reliably deliver only the best quality products to their customers. But this is critically important when it comes to plastics machining, especially when you consider the specific (and often high-stakes) environments that those machined components will actually be serving and performing in moving forward.

If a core component in a medical device fails under pressure, it’s more than just a minor inconvenience. People’s lives are at stake. And in the military, it’s no different. The men and women of the Armed Forces need to be able to depend on the equipment around them to help keep them safe no matter how harsh the conditions, just like we depend on them to do the same for us every day.

In these situations, there’s no such thing as a “small problem.” Transportation companies, aerospace organizations, and even NASA – they don’t want components that “probably won’t fail.” They need items that “definitely won’t fail, no matter what.” That, in essence, is why quality matters most of all when it comes to plastics machining. This is an. important reason why our customers have come to rely on JMJ Profile, to produce high quality components that are machined to their exacting specifications.

Making Quality a Core Component of the Plastics Machining Experience

At JMJ Profile, we’ve taken a number of steps over the years to show all of our customers that quality matters just as much to us as it does to them – and ISO 9001:2015 certification is a big part of how we do it. The quality systems and best practices that we’ve put into place as a result of 9001:2015 certification are measures that every business should institute, and they include essential elements like:

  • Total traceability protocols that are in place throughout the entire production process.
  • Regular inspections of all raw materials to make sure not only that they’re the highest quality, but that they’re actually appropriate for the end user’s application.
  • Only working with manufacturers who care just as much about quality as we do.
  • Regular inspections of all components throughout ALL phases of the production process.
  • The use of innovative measurement technologies like OGP SmartScope to verify tolerances within 1/10,000 of an inch.
  • Environmentally controlled production areas, all in an effort to minimize contamination as much as humanly possible.
  • And much, much more.

At JMJ Profile, we have also gone to enormous lengths to create a hands-off system that has been custom built from the ground up. This moves client approved AutoCAD designs through their lifecycle as quickly and as efficiently as possible, including through CNC programming, prototyping and even into finished production. Not only does this go a long way towards minimizing human error, but it also helps us control a myriad of variables that are in play that could create issues down the road.

If all of this sounds like a lot of effort, that’s because it is. But then again – this is one of those situations where “getting the job done” and “getting the job done the right way” are two very different ideas. We know that our clients need and deserve the latter and we’ll do anything to help get them there – and truly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
